The Nürburgring record that Polestar has hidden (until now)

Given the demand and difficulty of the circuit, there are many brands that turn the Nürburgring into a test track. In many cases, the times achieved on the Nürburgring are used to prove the competence of road models. But it's not always so.

In 2016, after the WTCC stage at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the private team Cyan Racing took advantage of the German circuit layout to carry out some dynamic tests of the Volvo S60 Polestar road version. The test results were kept secret for 12 months:

With a time of 7 minutes and 51 seconds, the Volvo S60 Polestar set the record for the fastest four-door production model on the Nürburgring.

Launched last year, the Volvo S60 Polestar is equipped with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 367hp (among other mechanical improvements) and takes just 4.7 seconds from 0-100 km/h.

However, already after the record of the Volvo S60 Polestar, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio claimed the title of fastest saloon at the Nürburgring, with a time of 7 minutes and 32 seconds. Also the Porsche Panamera Turbo – technically a five-door model – managed a better lap than the S60 Polestar on the German circuit. Anyway, looking at the specs of both models, the time of the S60 Polestar surprises.

As for the competition version, the S60 Polestar TC1 returns today to “Inferno Verde” for another stage of the WTCC.
