Nautilus Car: The flagship car of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"

Yesterday, we published the image at the top of this article on our Facebook page, and, as you can see, the interest in the car portrayed there was huge…

The preponderant Nautilus Car was specially created for a movie that premiered in 2003, called The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Anyone who has seen this film will certainly remember this magnificent asphalt locomotive.

Despite being a functional car, it is not allowed to circulate on public roads. Also could… Exuberant and excessive are the two middle names of this six-wheeled anvil. Built from the ground up from a Land Rover chassis (perhaps the Land Rover Stage), the Nautilus Car measures an incredible 7 meters long and 3 meters wide.

The power is in charge of a Rover V8 and the design was in the hands of the award-winning designer, Carol Spier, who gave the car a somewhat “Victorian” styling. In the film, this “beast” belonged to a character from India, Captain Nemo, and thinking about it, numerous elephant figures were scattered all over the car (hood, door handles, front grille, etc.).

Another feature that makes this mode of transport even more “absurd”, is the fact that it is too “small flat” compared to conventional cars. Confused? I'll explain… Because it is so glued to the ground and because it has the dimensions it has, it was necessary to build a specific hydraulic system that would allow the Nautilus Car to be transported from one side to the other in the safest possible way. Some people who had the opportunity to deprive themselves with this impressive car, said that the Nautilus Car is a boy to reach 80 km/h without losing posture – something that I, and all the editors of RazãoAutomóvel, would seriously like to see this happen. .
