Alpina B8 Gran Coupé. Exquisite alternative to the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé

Anonim

Alpina B8 Gran Coupé , that's the name of the vision of the manufacturer specializing in the interpretation of BMW models for the 8 Series Gran Coupé of the Munich brand.

At a time when BMW is already working on the usual mid-life update, Alpina has just presented us with a proposal that is very close to the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé .

As is usual in the creations of the company based in Buchloe, Bavaria (Germany), the image has not undergone significant changes compared to the Series 8, but presents unique details, typical of the Alpina, which give it personality, starting with the color of the bodywork, a metallic green specific to Alpina.

At the front, the bumper with redesigned side air intakes and a slight spoiler with the preparer's signature stands out. In profile, classic 20” silver multi-spoke wheels are available as standard, but on the list of options there is a 21” wheel set with a more aggressive design.

Moving to the rear, the Alpina logo and four new circular exhausts stand out naturally, instead of the two geometric tailpipes found on the BMW M850i Gran Coupé.

a luxury cabin

Inside, the Alpina B8 Gran Coupé hasn't undergone major changes, apart from the new leather coverings (multiple colors available), the Alpina signature in the graphics of the digital instrument panel and, of course, the special plate that appears below the command of the iDrive system.

The dynamic potential has also been raised to a new level, thanks to new Eibach springs and dampers with a firmer feel. The standard stabilizer bars were also replaced by stiffer ones and the brake system was also improved, now being in charge of Brembo.

In addition to all this, there is also the limited-slip rear differential and the active integral steering system, which allows the rear wheels to turn up to 2.3º. All to increase the dynamic capabilities of a model that now has even more power.

More drama, more power

The “heart” of this Alpina B8 Gran Coupé is the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 block found in the BMW M850i Gran Coupé, but thanks to new pistons, intake and exhaust, two larger turbochargers and a new engine control unit with a new injection map, now producing 621 hp and 800 Nm of maximum torque.

This increase in power of 91 hp and 50 Nm translates into a level of performance that is also much higher: the Alpina B8 Gran Coupé needs just 3.4s to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h and reaches 324 km/h of speed maximum, as opposed to the 3.9s and 305 km/h announced by BMW for the M850i Gran Coupé. And it's just 0.2s from the M8 Competition Gran Coupé in the classics 0-100 km/h.

We left the worst for last, the price. The new Alpina B8 Gran Coupé is now available to order and starts in Germany at €161,200. As a basis for comparison, it is important to remember that the BMW M850i Gran Coupé is available in our country with prices starting at 152,000 euros.
