Here comes the electric GTI! Volkswagen confirms ID.3 GTX with 333 hp

Now it's official. The Volkswagen ID.3 will even have a sport version with more than 300 hp of power, which should be called ID.3 GTX.

The confirmation was made by Ralf Brandstätter, general director of the German brand, in statements to the British at Autocar, at the Munich Motor Show. According to the German executive, the ID.X prototype that we got to know about four months ago will even be produced, giving rise to a spicier version of the ID.3.

Brandstätter did not want to reveal information about the driving system of this electric hot hatch, but everything indicates that the system used is the same as that found in the ID.4 GTX, which is based on two electric motors, one per axle.

As such, and unlike the other ID.3 rear-wheel-drive variants, this ID.3 GTX will feature all-wheel drive. As for power, it is known that the ID.X prototype could produce 25 kW (34 hp) more than the ID.4 GTX, totaling 245 kW (333 hp), so the production version should follow in its footsteps.

If we add to that the fact that this ID.3 GTX is considerably lighter than the ID.4 GTX, we can expect an electric far more exciting in performance: remember that the ID.X prototype is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3s and has a Drift Mode similar to what we can find in the brand new Golf R.

Everything indicates that this ID.3 GTX will be presented to the world during the next year, but this is far from being the only novelty that Volkswagen has in store for its ID family.

During these statements to Autocar, Ralf Brandstätter also hinted that there will be surprises on the part of the “R” models, which allows us to anticipate more “spicy” electric cars on the way. And regarding this we only have one thing to say: let them come!
