Just search Youtube for Tesla Model S P100D and drag race, and we see the huge and heavy four-door saloon “wreck” all sorts of machines — from the muscular Hellcat to the most exotic supercar. You will also be able to put the McLaren 720S in order, one of the latest dragstrip “heroes”?
At the controls of the two machines we have again Mat Watson from Carwow, and Shmee, from the Shmee150 channel, who have been making, in the name of science — right… — several videos with start-up tests — yesterday we revealed a duel between brothers, where the 720S and the more focused 675LT clashed in the same type of race.
Mat Watson remains faithful to the McLaren 720S, while Shmee sees the Tesla Model S P100D as the best chance of taking the British supercar to the top. The video integrates three events — stopped start, released start and braking — and promises to be close.
Despite the greater firepower of the 720S — 720 hp against 613 hp (combined and not added power of the two electric motors, diverging from the 761 bhp, or 770 hp, announced by Shmee) —, to which is added a much lower weight, the Model S P100D responds with instantaneous torque, and thundering logo 967 Nm all at once, spread over the four wheels — no hesitation, it's just loading… and being crushed against the seat (!). It's what allows this tram to be the king of starters.
But can Tesla sustain the momentum?
