Cold Start. Thank the Corvette ZR1 engineers for the 911 GT3 RS record in "green hell"

The Nürburgring-Nordschleife is often said to be Porsche's “backyard”. This is where the German brand proves, over and over again, the shattering effectiveness of its sports cars.

In March, we got to know the refreshed 911 GT3 RS — 20 hp more and aerodynamic and dynamic changes — theoretically faster than its predecessor, but for how much? A trip to the Nürburgring was mandatory, but, unlucky… Porsche didn't book the circuit and knocked “nose in the door” — the Corvette ZR1 monster development team had reserved the track for the whole day.

Fortunately, many of the members of the two teams know each other — GM has a permanent development team in place — and an atmosphere of camaraderie prevails between them all, so they graciously gave Porsche an hour of their day to power the 911 GT3 RS proof.

It only took 30 minutes — in the first lap he immediately managed 6min59s, a feat repeated in the following two laps. On the fourth lap, he did even better, reaching the 6min56.4s — mission accomplished, we can go home. In 30 minutes they achieved what the Corvette ZR1 team had been trying for a week — down from seven minutes!
