Earlier this year, Hyundai unveiled the new generation i30 — recall all the details on video here. The same platform, now with a more up-to-date design and a clearly more technological interior.

Now it's time for us to meet the ultimate interpretation of the familiar South Korean compact: the Hyundai i30 N.

In aesthetic terms, the differences for the current generation are not significant but they are welcome. The front was redesigned and the rear gained a new drama.

The rear got a more muscular bumper and two larger exhausts. It remains to be seen whether the "pops and bangs" that the Korean "hot hatch" offered us will continue to be present in this generation.

The luminous signature, like the rest of the i30 range, is also different. On the side, the highlight goes to the new 19-inch wheels.

Dual clutch gearbox and… more power?

Hyundai's first N-division sportscar — a division that is led by historic former BMW M-division official Albert Biermann — will be faster than its predecessor, but it may not be at the expense of more power.

Dynamically, the Hyundai i30 N has been one of the most praised 'all ahead' of recent years. Will it continue like this?

The new generation Hyundai i30 N will use a new eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, fully developed by Hyundai. This box will have a specific operating mode «N performance» and will be reliably capable of lowering the Hyundai i30's registration from 0-100 km/h in about 0.4 seconds — the current i30 N fulfills the 0-100 km/h in 6.4 seconds.

In terms of power, there are no indications that the 2.0 Turbo engine from Hyundai can see its power increased. Despite the efficiency and speed of the Hyundai i30, Albert Biermann has always stated that “the focus of the i30 N is on fun and not on maximum power”.
