Toyota GR Yaris at the Nürburgring. It didn't break records, but it doesn't lack speed

After some time ago we saw the Toyota GR Yaris set a “Brigde-to-Gantry” time at the Nürburgring (which represents a distance of 19.1 km), the Japanese model has returned to the “Green Hell” and has now made a complete lap .

It covered the 20.6 km of the German circuit with the track completely deserted, thanks to our colleagues at Sport Auto who totally “squeezed” the little GR Yaris.

Equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and driver Christian Gebhardt at the wheel, the stopwatch stopped at 8min 14.93s , a value of respect.

Despite being above the achieved by record holders like the Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy-R or the Honda Civic Type R, it is far from embarrassing the Toyota model. If you noticed, we used models from the segment above as a point of comparison.

The reason for this is very simple: there are no direct rivals and given their specs, those closest are in the segment above.

When comparing possible rivals (current and past) of Toyota GR Yaris , it turns out that they stayed far away. In “everything ahead”, the Renault Clio RS 220 Trophy (last generation) managed to cover the circuit in 8min32s and the current MINI John Cooper Works recorded 8min28s. The Audi S1, perhaps the closest model to the GR Yaris, with all-wheel drive, did not go beyond 8min41s.

Could the GR Yaris be even faster? We believe so. Throughout the video we see the Japanese model sometimes reaching 230 km/h of maximum speed, but as we know, it is electronically limited to that value — how many seconds will it have lost by having this limitation?

Now, we can only wait for the Toyota GR Yaris to appear on more circuits before we can once again see its capabilities in action.

Around here, if you haven't seen him in action yet, you can do so in this video in which Guilherme Costa takes the Japanese hot hatch to the limit.
