We went to Los Angeles to test the competitors for the World Car Awards 2020

Another year, another trip by Guilherme to the United States of America for the LA Test Drives of the World Car Awards, the most relevant award in the automotive industry worldwide.

Razão Automóvel is the only Portuguese representative in this prestigious award that every year distinguishes the best models in several categories, with the most desired award being the World Car of the Year.

This video is a summary of everything that happened during four days in the locality of Pasadena, Los Angeles, USA, where more than 60 judges of the World Car Awards had the opportunity to test the main novelties of the North American market and contact with some news European cars.

As we have seen, it was a unique opportunity to have contact with models that are not even sold here. Among them the pleasantly surprising “family-size” SUVs from Hyundai and Kia, respectively, the palisade it's the Telluride — if they thought a Hyundai Santa Fe was big, the Palisade/Telluride are much bigger.

Also in the Korean group, Guilherme had the opportunity to drive Hyundai's new mid-size saloon, the Sonata , which saw the emergence of a new generation this year, and which also surprised positively. Also the electric Kia e-Soul was available, but we have already carried it around here, in anticipation of its commercialization in our country, which only takes place in the spring of 2020.

Less positive were the native's assessments. Cadillac XT6 , an SUV from the historic US manufacturer, and also from the Range Rover Evoque , which in its American spec turned out to be less precise, responsive and softer than in the European spec.

You've already had the opportunity to watch the other models tested on our YouTube video or read about them here on the site. We tested the Munich flagship, the BMW M8 Competition ; we compared the "brothers" BMW Z4 M40i and Toyota GR Supra ; as well as we wanted to know which is the best, the new and electric Porsche Taycan or the icon Porsche 911 Carrera 4S; and finally, Guilherme had the opportunity to drive — or is it to drive? — the awesome Porsche 718 Spyder.

My definition of an almost perfect day. Two real sports cars and Angeles Crest Highway on my own.

They are not the only models in the competition. The rest will have the opportunity to test on European soil in the first months of next year, until the 2020 World Car of the Year is chosen, which will take place in April during the New York Motor Show.
