Volkswagen ID.R wants more records. Now go "hunting" an F1 Mercedes

After having set records at the Nürburgring, Pikes Peak, Goodwood and even China, the Volkswagen ID.R seems committed to going "hunting" too much.

For starters, the 100% electric competition model is already guaranteed presence at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it will try to beat its own record, but this time… on a Sunday.

Confirmation was given by Sven Smeets, director of Volkswagen Motorsport who told Autocar: “We set the all-time record last year, but the best time was set on a Saturday and the Duke of Richmond told us: “it was good that they came back and established the record on a Sunday””.

Volkswagen ID.R will also integrate the Sonoma Speed Festival, which takes place between May 28 and 31 in California, United States of America. There, he will try to beat the record of 1min15.430s obtained by Mercedes last year with a 2016 F1 on the Sonoma circuit.

We want to break the record, and the time achieved by a Formula 1 Mercedes is a difficult goal. Going to Sonoma with the aim of breaking a record set by a Formula 1 car reveals where we are in technological terms.

In addition to these two events, Volkswagen ID.R will also be present at Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance in June and in another event that, for now, remains in the “secret of the Gods”.
