Toyota GR Supra "American" with 387 hp went to the power bank. Hidden horses?

387 hp? But the Toyota GR Supra only has 340 hp… Yes, this is the power figure announced for the GR Supra… in Europe. But in the US, as was the case with the “brother” BMW Z4 M40i, and thanks to different emission standards on both sides of the Atlantic, so is the B58 that equips the Japanese sports car. see the number of horses rise to 387.

And of course, the Americans wasted no time in confirming in a power bank whether the 47 hp gain is real.

The last time they took the Toyota GR Supra to a power bank, it “turned out” that the official 340 hp was modest. In fact, there were several cases, both in the US and in Europe, where it was found that the B58 was much more powerful than advertised.

Several were the power banks that measured around 340 hp… to the wheels. Considering the transmission losses, it means that the six-cylinder in-line to the crankshaft would deliver something around 390 hp!

Will history repeat itself with this official update to 387 hp? That's what Car and Driver wanted to discover, taking the Toyota GR Supra MY2021 (Model Year) to the power bank:

As we can see, Car and Driver took two Supras, the MY20 — the 340 hp version — and the new MY21, with the announced 387 hp, to better compare the results of the two tests.

Considering the results we've seen in previous tests, unsurprisingly, the 340 hp version registered a very healthy 346 hp (350 hp) at the wheels, bringing up to more than 390 hp at the crankshaft. And the new Toyota GR Supra MY21? It did not escape the "tradition": an impressive 388 hp (393 hp) to the wheels, which means that the crankshaft delivers more than… 450 hp!

Okay… Even though power banks are not an exact science, more tests will soon emerge to corroborate the Car and Driver result. What seems indisputable is that the B58, BMW's supercharged inline six-cylinder, seems to have the health to give and sell.
