João Barbosa won today the 24 Hours of Daytona. Portuguese pilots in good plan in the American endurance race.

João Barbosa won the 24 Hours of Daytona, beating Max Angelelli by just 1.4 sec., in an edition that, as time confirms, was breathtaking. It was his second overall victory in the competition.

The Portuguese driver from Action Express Racing, assisted by Christian Fittipaldi and Sébastien Bourdais was constantly at the top of the race, closely followed by the Wayne Taylor Racing team car that took second.

In the GTLM class, Pedro Lamy was only eighth, due to mechanical problems in his Aston Martin, which earned the team a “vacation” of 3 hours in the box for repair. So the victory in the GTLM class ended up smiling to Porsche, even though only one car finished the race. BMW made the mechanical consistency of its cars its main asset and secured second place, despite the lack of pace. SRT took third.

In the GTD class another Portuguese, Filipe Albuquerque (pictured) who raced backwards, recovering up to fifth place in one of the Audi's Flying Lizard team, thus failing to repeat his 2013 victory in the category. In this class, the highlight was all the last lap of the Level 5 and Flying Lizard cars, with Alessandro Pier Guidi pushing Markus Winkelhock onto the grass. The victory was ultimately attributed to Markus Winkerlhock's Audi, as Pier Guidi was penalized after the race.
