What technology is this, you ask? It is the innovative combustion pre-chamber system with two spark plugs. A technology developed for Formula 1, which, for the first time, comes with an engine intended for a road car.

Therefore, and according to the Italian brand, the new Maserati Nettuno has three main attributes:

  • Pre-combustion chamber: a combustion chamber was positioned between the central electrode and the traditional combustion chamber, being connected through a series of holes specially designed for this purpose;
  • Side spark plug: a traditional spark plug works as a backup to ensure constant combustion when the engine is operating at a level where the pre-chamber is not required;
  • Dual injection system (direct and indirect): coupled with a fuel supply pressure of 350 bar, the system aims to reduce noise at low speed, lower emissions and improve consumption.

Now that we already know the “heart” of the future Maserati MC20, we just need to wait for its official presentation on 9th and 10th of September so we can get to know its shapes.
