Skoda European Top-5 by 2030 is target based on electrification and digitization

At a conference held yesterday in Prague (which Razão Automóvel attended online), Skoda made known its ambitious plans until 2030, presenting “NEXT LEVEL – ŠKODA STRATEGY 2030”.

Based on three “foundation stones” — “Expand”, “Explore” and “Engage” — this plan, as one would expect, is very focused not only on decarbonization/reduction of emissions, but also on the bet on electrification. However, it is the goal of reaching the Top-5 in sales in the European market that stands out the most.

To this end, the Czech brand plans not only to offer a full range in the lower segments, but also a greater number of 100% electric proposals. The goal is to launch at least three more electric models by 2030, all of them positioned below the Enyaq iV. With this, Skoda hopes to ensure that between 50-70% of its sales in Europe correspond to electric models.

The “honors” of publicizing the new plan fell to Skoda CEO Thomas Schäfer.

Expand without forgetting “the house”

Established within the Volkswagen Group as the “spearhead” for emerging markets (it is the group's responsible brand for expansion in these countries), Skoda also has ambitious goals for markets such as India, Russia or North Africa.

The goal is to become the best-selling European brand in these markets in 2030, with sales targets aiming for 1.5 million units/year. The first step in this direction has already been taken, with the launch of the Kushaq SUV in the Indian market, the first model of the Czech brand to be sold there under the “INDIA 2.0” project.

But don't think that this focus on internationalization and European rise made Skoda “forget” the domestic market (where it is “owner and lady” of the sales chart). The Czech brand wants to make its home country a “hotbed of electric mobility”.

Skoda plan

Thus, by 2030 the three Skoda factories will produce components for electric cars or the models themselves. Batteries for the Superb iV and Octavia iV are already being produced there, and in early 2022 the factory in Mladá Boleslav will start producing batteries for the Enyaq iV.

Decarbonize and scan

Finally, “NEXT LEVEL – ŠKODA STRATEGY 2030” also sets targets for the decarbonization of Skoda and its digitalization. Starting with the first, these involve guaranteeing in 2030 a reduction in average emissions from the range of 50% compared to 2020. In addition, the Czech brand also plans to simplify its range by 40%, investing in, for example, in reducing emissions. optional.

Finally, in the field of digitization, the objective is to bring the maxim of the “Simply Clever” brand to the digital age, facilitating not only the digital experience of consumers but also issues as simple as charging electric models. For that, Skoda will create the “PowerPass”, which will be available in more than 30 countries and can be used in more than 210 thousand charging stations in Europe.

At the same time, Skoda will expand its virtual dealerships, having set a target that one in five models sold in 2025 will be sold through online channels.
