The new Mazda CX-30 it is, effectively, the SUV of the new Mazda3. Positioned between the smallest CX-3 and the much larger CX-5, it appears to be just the right dimensions (it's even 6 cm shorter than the Mazda3 from which it's derived) to fulfill both the roles of compact family member and daytime companion. to-day.

For those who are already saying “or not, another SUV”, the saying “against facts there are no arguments” more than justifies Mazda's strong commitment to this typology — currently the CX-5 is its best-selling model globally.

In Europe, and particularly in Portugal, the chances are strong that the CX-30 will become Mazda's best-selling model.

And why not? Look at the national market numbers: 30.5% of the new cars sold in 2019 (data up to June) are SUV or crossover, a 10 percentage point jump compared to 2017. And it is the small (15.9% share) and medium (11%) that grow the most and continue to steal quota from traditional segments.

When you combine the B-SUV and C-SUV with the traditional B and C segments, they make up nearly 80% of the market — it's hard not to see the new CX-30 as the right answer to market needs. Mazda's goal is to sell 1500 units of the CX-30 in a year in Portugal.

In Portugal

The new Mazda CX-30 comes to us with a wide range, based on three engines, two transmissions, two types of traction and two levels of equipment.

Starting with the engines, two petrol and one diesel are available, all of which are already known from the Mazda3. In gasoline engines, a type of engine whose importance has grown significantly in the segment — the share rose from 6% to 25.9% between 2017 and 2019 — we find as access motorization the SKYACTIV-G with 2.0 l and 122 hp and 213 Nm of torque.

It will be complemented, from October, with the arrival of the revolutionary SKYACTIV-X also with 2.0 l, but 180 hp and 224 Nm . In Diesel, which despite the loss of relevance, are still the most chosen in the segment in Portugal — a share of 88.6% in 2017, it stands at 61.9% in 2019 —, we find the already known SKYACTIV-D 1.8 of 116 hp and 270 Nm.

All engines can be paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or an automatic (torque converter) with an equal number of gears. Unusual is the fact that all engines can be associated with all-wheel drive (AWD), a feature that in many rivals does not even exist.
