Presented simultaneously in three different locations (Europe, Japan and USA) the new Mazda MX-5 2016 is one of the most important models for the Japanese brand. He is responsible for marking the 25th anniversary of a model that, during this period, won legions of fans around the world.
The sale of the new MX-5 starts next year, as if it were a 2016 model – hence the designation 2016 instead of 2015. But let's get to specific details.
The design, although deeply inspired by its predecessors, is the latest interpretation of the brand's current stylistic language, KODO – Alma in motion.
One of the great highlights of this long-awaited model goes to the chassis with SKYACTIVE technology, which for the first time appears in a rear-wheel drive configuration. The new Mazda MX-5 2016 is 105mm shorter, 20mm shorter and 10mm wider than its predecessor. This reduction in dimensions, together with the use of lighter materials, resulted in a saving of 100 kg compared to the generation currently on sale.

Another of the new features of this generation – and which allows us to foresee an even more refined dynamic – is the reduction in the center of gravity and the equitable distribution of weight between the axles. Thanks to the front-center placement of the engine, for the first time the MX-5 will have a 50/50 weight distribution on each axle.
As for engines, Mazda "closed itself in cups" and did not provide details during the presentation. But in the first phase, two engines are expected: one with 1,500 cc and another more powerful with 2,000 cc. Each one with about 140 and 200 hp of power respectively.
