Marchionne takes the unsaid. There will even be a Ferrari SUV

At a time when virtually all manufacturers, premium or not, have joined, or are going to, the SUV and crossover fad, iconic Ferrari seemed to be one of the few brands capable of staying true to its essence.

And we say “it seemed” because, according to its CEO, the Italian Sergio Marchionne, the manufacturer of the “Cavallino Rampante” will even follow in the footsteps of rival Lamborghini and have an SUV in its range. Which, the same person in charge assures, will not only look like it, but also drive like a real Ferrari.

After having already stated, in the past, that a Ferrari SUV, “just over my dead body”, Marchionne thus goes back in his position, when he stated, in the middle of the Detroit Motor Show and in statements to the AutoExpress, that the manufacturer will have even an SUV. Which "will look like a more Ferrari utility vehicle should" and "drive like any other Ferrari".

Despite the somewhat vague definition of what the future Ferrari SUV will be, Marchionne's words suggest that the vehicle can maintain the brand's DNA, based on supersports. All pointing to it to be a direct rival to the Lamborghini Urus.

Internally known by the code name FX16, the first SUV in Ferrari's history is expected to use the same platform as the successor to the GTC4Lusso, and there is also the possibility of having a hybrid propulsion system.

FUV is farewell to Marchionne

Remember that the Ferrari Utility Vehicle, or FUV, should be one of the last acts of Italian Sergio Marchionne's management, who promises to abandon the FCA leadership in 2019, followed by Ferrari, two years later.

However, detailed information about the model should be known during the first quarter of 2018, when Ferrari unveils its strategic plan for the next five years, that is, until 2022.
