Fans of the Bavarian brand have long been salivating over a successor to the BMW M1. Well, the news is not encouraging.

Produced by BMW between 1978 and 1981, in a quantity that did not exceed 460 cars, the BMW M1 is nowadays one of the most coveted BMW classics. And it's not hard to see why.

Production was initially delegated to Lamborghini, but for largely financial reasons, BMW ended up taking on that task – only the story that gave rise to the sports car would give a separate article.

In addition to being designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the BMW M1 was the first production BMW equipped with a mid-engine, 3.5 liter inline six-cylinder Twin Cam block positioned just behind the front seats. And if the road versions were limited to 277 hp, the legendary M1 Procar reached 470, and later conversions of these, supercharged, surpassed 850 hp of power.

In 2008, BMW's design department introduced the M1 Homage, a tribute to the original model, 30 years after its launch.

Since then, there have been rumors pointing to a successor to the M1, but so far there are no prospects that will materialize. It was speculated that the BMW i8 could serve as a basis for this, as it also places the heat engine behind the passengers, but BMW has also closed that door.

However, designer Rain Prisk has given free rein to his imagination and designed the iconic German coupé in two different versions: one prepared for off-road adventures and, at the opposite end, another much closer to the ground. You decide…
