Find out which engines will power the new Kia Sorento

Scheduled for its premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, we are gradually getting to know the fourth generation of the Kia Sorento . This time the South Korean brand decided to reveal part of what is hidden under the new skin of its SUV.

Developed on the basis of a new platform, the Kia Sorento grew 10 mm compared to its predecessor and saw the wheelbase increase 35 mm, rising to 2815 mm.

In addition to revealing some more data about the dimensions of the Sorento, Kia also made known some of the engines that will equip its SUV, including an unprecedented hybrid version.

Starting with the hybrid version, this debuts the “Smartstream” hybrid powertrain and combines the 1.6 T-GDi petrol with a 44.2 kW (60 hp) electric motor that is powered by a lithium ion polymer battery with 1 .49 kWh of capacity. The end result is a combined potency of 230 hp and 350 Nm and the promise of lower consumption and CO2 emissions.

In addition to the new hybrid engine, Kia also released data on the diesel engine that will power the Sorento. It is a four-cylinder with 2.2 l capacity that offers 202 hp and 440 Nm , being associated with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

For the first time Kia Sorento will have a hybrid version.

Speaking of the double-clutch automatic gearbox, this has as a great novelty the fact that it has a wet clutch. According to the brand, this not only provides gear changes as smooth as a conventional automatic gearbox (torque converter), but also allows for greater efficiency compared to dry double clutch gearboxes.

Despite not having revealed more data about the Sorento, Kia confirmed that it will have more variants, one of them being a hybrid plug-in.
