Cold Start. Why is the Audi A1 Citycarver not called Allroad?

Anonim

Since the birth of the Audi A6 Allroad some twenty years ago, all the rolled-up trouser versions of models from the Ingolstadt brand have been given the Allroad designation. I mean, all but the latest member of Audi's family of adventurers, the little one A1 Citycarver.

Unlike his "older sisters", the adventurous version of the city man did not have the right to receive the already mythical designation Allroad, being designated by Citycarver, a name hitherto unknown in the Audi universe. But why is the most adventurous of the A1 not given the “family name”?

The most plausible theory, without official confirmation, is that the A1 Citycarver is not called Allroad because it only has front wheel drive, unlike the A6 Allroad and A4 Allroad that are equipped (and always were) with the quattro all-wheel drive system.

Now, this lack of all-wheel drive may very well have been the reason why Audi felt that the most radical of the A1s wasn't “deserving” of the designation hitherto used by Audi's “rolled up pants” models.
