Euro NCAP. Mazda CX-30 sets record and Opel Corsa wins four stars

The all-new Mazda CX-30 made a splash in the latest round of tests for the Euro NCAP , where the new Mercedes-Benz GLB, Ford Explorer and Opel Corsa were also destroyed.

With a rating bordering on the perfect, around 99%, the new Mazda CX-30 broke the record in adult occupant protection tests — congratulations to Mazda.

It scored maximum in the side impact tests (includes the demanding crash test against the post), and in the full width frontal crash tests, getting very close to the maximum grade in the off-centre frontal crash tests and against a non-rigid barrier.

As with the other tests — child occupant protection, pedestrian and cyclist protection, and safety assistants — the scores were equally high, naturally the Mazda CX-30's final score was five stars.

Opel Corsa “repeats” the result of the Peugeot 208

Perhaps it's not such a big surprise the four stars achieved by the new Opel Corsa . When sharing with the new Peugeot 208 the same base ended up getting the same result.

The reasons behind this very good but not excellent result are no different from those of the 208. The absence of a third back headrest on some versions has caused it to lose some points, with some tests having its results nullified — the Euro NCAP only validates the results for standard equipment present on all versions.

According to Euro NCAP, the Opel Corsa scored the desired five stars in three of the four assessment areas, with only the area dedicated to security assistants dropping below, and only by one percentage point.

Five stars for GLB and Explorer

The other two models tested, both SUVs, both achieved five stars. THE Mercedes-Benz GLB it delivers excellent performance in a particularly busy year for the star brand — it is the brand's sixth model to be tested this year by Euro NCAP, and they all achieved the coveted five stars.

THE Ford Explorer is a full-size SUV, a historic name with three decades in its home market, the United States of America. The new generation arrives in Europe with seven seats and exclusively as a plug-in hybrid.

Despite the five stars achieved, some caveats. Structures were detected in the dashboard that could represent injuries to the knees and femurs of the front occupants, as well as a marginal assessment of the protection of the ribs in the impact of the pole.
