As is tradition, the Wörthersee festival was the stage for the presentation of yet another highly modified Golf GTI.

On the sidelines of the presentation of the new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S, the 35th edition of the Austrian festival Wörthersee received another very special model. It is a Volkswagen Golf GTI with 394 hp – nicknamed the “Heartbeat” – developed in 9 months by 12 interns from different areas, aged between 20 and 26, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the German family compact.

In addition to boosting power to the turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, the Golf GTI received a matching exterior paint and 20-inch aluminum BBS wheels. Inside the cabin, the rear seats have been removed to make way for a 1,360-watt sound system with seven speakers.

In addition to this prototype, another group of trainees developed a more familiar prototype – Golf R Variant Performance 35 (below) – but none the less sporty. This station wagon version delivers 344 hp and is equipped with a 12-speaker sound system in the trunk.

Volkswagen has already guaranteed that it has no intention of moving towards the production of these two prototypes.
