Actual vs advertised consumption: PSA reveals results

The tests in real conditions reinforce the PSA Group's will to distance itself from the recent scandals in the automobile industry.

Promised is due. As the PSA Group announced last October, the consumption of the main Peugeot, Citroën and DS models will now be determined under real conditions. After the Peugeot 308, Citroën C4 Grand Picasso and DS 3, it is now the turn of the new Peugeot 2008.

Like the previous models, the actual consumptions of the French crossover show discrepancies between 30% and 40% with the values initially announced:

BlueHDI 120 – 5.2 l/100 km (actual) – 3.7 l/100 km (advertised)

BlueHDI 100 – 5.2 l/100 km (actual) – 3.7 l/100 km (advertised)

PureTech 130 – 7 l/100 km (actual) – 4.8 l/100 km (advertised)

PureTech 82 – 6.3 l/100 km (actual) – 4.9 l/100 km (advertised)

According to the brand, the tests were carried out by professional and amateur drivers (without any connection to Peugeot) on a 96-kilometre route that combines urban routes, secondary roads and a motorway. Although factors such as weather conditions and driving style are not under control, the brand ensures that the results are trustworthy.

"This new test cycle will be much more representative of the real experience of consumers, our view on the subject conveys full transparency for our customers. The Volkswagen case created a great concern at our company – we are market leaders in terms of consumption and emissions (diesel), so if something happens that breaks consumer confidence, it is a major concern for us”.

Carlos Tavares, President of Grupo PSA

As of next year, actual consumption will become mandatory, according to the new legislation (WLTP) that will come into force in September 2017.

Meanwhile, the PSA group has announced that production of BlueHDi Euro 6 diesel engines has surpassed 1 million units in Europe.
