Twenty years after the world debut of the first Boxster, the German roadster is back even more powerful and dynamic.

Stuttgart's new roadster maintains the tradition of opposing four-cylinder engines that were used in the mid-engined Porsche 718, a model that won numerous competitions in the 1960s. Two decades after the launch of the first two-seater convertible, the Porsche launches two new models – 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S.

In fact, the main focus of this new generation is the fully renewed supercharged four-cylinder engine. The 718 Boxster offers 300 hp from the 2.0 engine, while the 718 Boxster S delivers 350 hp from its 2.5-litre block. Power gains are fixed at 35 hp, while consumption shows improvements of up to 14%.

The supercharging of the engines of the new generation 718 Boxster significantly increases the torque: the two-litre engine of the 718 Boxster has a maximum torque of 380 Nm (more 100 Nm than the previous one); the 2.5 liter block of the 718 Boxster S reaches 420 Nm (more 60 Nm). Both have a six-speed manual gearbox.

Naturally, the performance of the new German roadster is also superior to those of its predecessors. The 718 Boxster – with PDK box and Sport Chrono Package – accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds (0.8 seconds faster), while the 718 Boxster S, with the same equipment, completes this exercise in just 4.2 seconds (0.6 seconds faster). The top speed is 275 km/h for the 718 Boxster and 285 km/h for the 718 Boxster S.

As it should be, the 718 Boxster is recognized from the first glance for its sharp profile and dynamic appearance. However, Porsche bet on more distinctive shapes, starting with the even wider front section and larger air intakes. In addition, this model features new bi-xenon headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights, stylish wings, new door sills, redesigned doors and lowered suspension, which gives a more masculine appearance.

Like the original 718, the new roadster is impressive in terms of dynamics. The chassis has been completely overhauled to improve cornering performance, while 10% more direct electromechanical steering and an improved braking system ensure more agility – sports driving enthusiasts will not be disappointed.

Inside the cabin, the 718 Boxster doesn't stray too far from the brand's concept; the big news is the improved instrument panel that gives shape to the cockpit. Highlights include the Porsche Communication Management with touchscreen (included as standard) and the navigation module with voice control (optional).

The Porsche 718 Boxster will be unveiled at the next Geneva Motor Show in March. The arrival of the sports car to Portuguese dealers should take place a month later with an initial price of 64,433 euros for the 718 Boxster and 82,046 euros for the 718 Boxster S.
