As you well know, one of the biggest challenges for anyone trying to keep a classic car going is the shortage of parts. After several brands have resorted to 3D printing to solve this problem (Porsche and Mercedes-Benz are two of them), now it was Bosch's turn to dedicate itself to the cause of classics.
However, Bosch did not decide to resort to 3D printing to produce parts for classics. Instead, the famous German components company embarked on a “reengineering project” to reissue the starters used by the Porsche 911, 928 and 959.
The new starter for Porsche Classics was developed by Bosch engineers at the Göttingen and Schwieberdingen plants and forms part of the Bosch Classic product range.
Modern technology associated with classics
In creating this improved, lighter and more compact version of the starter motor originally used by the 911, 928 and 959, Bosch has adapted the starter motor used in modern vehicles ensuring that the replacement parts used by these are also compatible with the models Porsche brand classics.

In the process of reengineering the starter motor, Bosch used modern and high-performance technology. In addition, it redesigned the starter motor bearing and pinion clutch. In the end, the new starter motor saw power rise from the original 1.5 kW to 2 kW, which allows a more reliable and safer starting of classic Porsches.
