This exclusive Porsche 911 GT1 will be up for auction in Monaco this May.

The Porsche 911 GT1 was a competition prototype initially developed to participate in the 1996 Le Mans 24 Hours. But what many didn't know is that, for homologation reasons, the German sports car even had a “road legal” version. nicknamed the Straßenversion (German “road version”).

But the model in question is not simply a production variant like the Straßenversion, but the only 911 GT1 Evolution that has been officially legalized to be able to ride freely on the road. By the way, this was also one of the most successful GT1’s ever, with 3 successive victories (between 1999 and 2001) in the Canadian GT trophy.

Although it enjoyed a powerful 3.2-litre flat-six, the high demands of the competition forced Porsche to develop an aerodynamic package, as can be seen from the large rear wing. The Porsche 911 GT1 Evolution will be auctioned by RM Sotheby's on May 14, for an estimated price of between 2.7 and 3 million euros.
