Desirable by nature, the famous DS21 has no Citroën DS21 Decapotable its rarest, most expensive, and most desirable version. For this reason, the appearance of a copy for sale is always an event.

After all, only 1365 DS Décapotable units were produced — 770 DS19, 483 DS21, and 112 ID19 — making this one of the rarest versions of Citroën's iconic model.

Originally created by French bodybuilder Chapron in 1958, the DS convertible variant was produced “semi-officially” until 1961, as Citroën refused to sell Chapron incomplete chassis. So, to create the convertible versions, the bodybuilder had to buy the entire Citroën DS and then transform them.

From 1961 the two companies reached an agreement and from then on Chapron was able to buy incomplete copies ready to be transformed. The production of the Citroën DS Décapotable lasted until 1971.

Almost tailor-made to customer requirements, the DS Décapotable were available in 15 exterior colors and with three types of carpet. Equipped with a fiberglass tailgate, one of the ways to identify genuine convertibles is through the doors, whose length is about 10 cm longer than on the “normal” DS.

Born in 1970 and sold to a German doctor, this Citroën DS21 Décapotable has been part of a collection since 2005 and has been little used since then.

Equipped with a 2.1 liter, 109 hp, four-cylinder engine with an automatic gearbox, this DS21 Décapotable will be auctioned by Silverstone Auctions in an online auction on July 31 and is estimated to be sold for one value between 90 thousand and 105 thousand pounds (between about 98 thousand and 115 thousand euros).
