Is buying a Bugatti expensive? Maintenance is not far behind...

Considered the benchmark among the main manufacturers of luxury hypersports, the Bugatti it remains a true case apart, going no further than producing one model at a time, with handcrafted productions, extremely small numbers and staggeringly high prices.

With the car industry's only W16 quad-turbo engine, delivering a maximum of 1200 hp on the Veyron and 1500 hp on the Chiron, and equipped with some of the most advanced technologies in the industry, the reality is that just having money to buy a Bugatti is not enough. ; you also need to have a financial framework to maintain it! As no other car applies so well to the popular Portuguese maxim, according to which “a car eats with us at the table”!

Maintenance? Exclusively on the brand!

So, just as a conversation starter, it is necessary to underline that any Bugatti Chiron or Veyron can only be seen in one place: the official workshops of the brand. Or, in case it is an urgent and simpler intervention, by one of the famous Flying Doctors.

Bugatti Flying Doctor 2018

Flying Doctors are experienced engineers that the manufacturer has permanently on hand. These “doctors” are always ready to travel, immediately, to any part of the globe, to assist any vehicle of the brand.

In case the vehicle has to be shipped to an official garage or even to Bugatti's headquarters in Molsheim (which, in many cases, is even more likely…), in French Alsace, the brand guarantees its return, after repair, at the customer's own home, or wherever they wish.

Thinking about abdicating this obligation, just and only in order to avoid high costs, means losing the factory warranty, with all the recurring problems. It's just that a diamond of this carat is not something you can do without a strict maintenance plan!

Change the oil for $21,000…

But let's get to accounts. According to Salomondrin, a well-known youtuber who has no problem revealing all the details of the cars he owns or is testing, changing the oil of a Bugatti Veyron costs something like 21 000 dollars (17,972 euros), while changing the four tires of the same model costs 30,000 euros (25,674 euros) — after all, they are tires developed by Michelin, specific for the Veyron, capable of withstanding speeds of up to 415 km/h. Or, in extreme situations, the 431 km/h.

However, if there is a need to change at least three tyres, Bugatti also recommends changing all four wheels. This is due to the need to apply a special adhesive on the rim, which improves the relationship between this and the tire, in the transmission efforts of 1500 Nm of torque to the ground. Price of this intervention: 120 000 dollars (102 695 euros).

Finally, as for scheduled reviews, of an annual nature, they have an average cost of 30,000 euros.

Are all these interventions expensive? Bugatti itself has a solution capable of alleviating all these costs: a comprehensive overhaul and repair plan, by 50 000 dollars (42 789 euros) per year. Admittedly, it doesn't include tires and rims, but at least for the rest, you'll be able to sleep peacefully...
