Volkswagen Passat Variant GTE: efficiency and dynamism

Anonim

The Volkswagen Passat Variant GTE is Volkswagen's commitment to versatility of use, which combines the qualities of a familiar model with a hybrid engine, allowing you to switch between long journeys and city driving with zero CO2 emissions. This is due to the combination of a 1.4 TSI engine of 156 hp with an electric motor of 85 kW, which corresponds to 116 hp, for an effective final efficiency of 218 hp of power and 400 Nm of torque. This power is channeled to the front wheels via a six-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.

The electrical system is powered by a 9.9 kWh lithium battery and, as a plug-in, includes a recharge process by connection to the traditional electrical network. For a full charge, the Volkswagen Passat Variant GTE needs 4h15m on a 2.3kW outlet or 2h30m if it has a power of 3.6kW. As on its brother Golf GTE, with whom it shares the entire hybrid system, the charging socket is placed on the grid.

The Volkswagen Passat Variant GTE always starts its march in electric mode, in which it has a range of 50 km and a maximum speed of 130 km/h. The driver can choose between four driving modes to manage the energy of the main battery, they are E-mode, Hybrid, Battery Charge and GTE. In addition to charging by plug and Battery Charge mode, the battery recharges each time the driver decelerates or applies the brakes, thanks to the e-BKW system, which converts kinetic energy into electrical energy.

On the instrument panel, the driver can observe, at all times, the energy flow between the battery, wheels, electric motor and thermal propellant, which helps to drive more efficiently.

Thanks to its hybrid system, the Passat Variant GTE combines sporty performances with great efficiency. Making the most of the plug-in's potential, it obtains an average consumption of 1.7 l/100 km with CO2 emissions of 39 g/km, being able to offer a total autonomy in the order of 1,050 km. However, it can provide an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 225 km/h.

As a member of the GT family, the Volkswagen Passat Variant GTE has a chassis equipped with a sportier suspension, which allows it to exhibit more dynamic handling on the road.

The Volkswagen Passat Variant GTE maintains its load versatility, with a luggage space of 483 liters and 1/3-2/3 folding rear seats, thanks to the battery storage under the rear seats. The standard equipment for this model includes equipment such as LED headlights, Discover Pro navigation system and Front Assist and City Emergency Braking driving support systems.

Since 2015, Razão Automóvel has been part of the panel of judges for the Essilor Car of the Year/Crystal Wheel Trophy award.

The RRP for the Passat Variant GTE is €49,850, for which Volkswagen offers an eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty.

In addition to the Essilor Car of the Year/Crystal Wheel Trophy, the Volkswagen Passat Variant GTE is also competing in the Ecological Class of the Year, where it will face the Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid Tech and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
