Skoda Fabia: raising the bar for city dwellers

The 3rd generation of the city's Skoda Fabia has sold 3.5 million units since 1999. Its technological package includes state of the art connectivity solutions.

Five years after the 2010 edition, Skoda is now launching the third generation of its utility and main ram for the competitive B-segment of the European market. Since 1999, more than 3.5 million units of the Skoda Fabia have been sold, a number that clearly attests to its popularity and importance for the Czech brand.

The new model is available with a new design, more efficient engines and a technological package that includes a series of features security, comfort and connectivity to smartphones.

Despite its even more compact dimensions, the new Skoda Fabia, proposed in five-door and family (van) bodywork, remains committed to offering excellent levels of room and space on board for five passengers. New solutions for ergonomics and modularity were imprinted on the new Fabia , which in its five-door version offers a luggage compartment with 330 liters of capacity.

To power this family-oriented city, Skoda resorts, as usual, to a new generation of engines from the Volkswagen group, announcing greater efficiency without sacrificing performance. "With new gasoline (1.0 and 1.2 TSI) and Diesel (1.4 TDI) engines, more efficient and with technology from the new MQB platform, the new Fabia are lighter, more dynamic and with improvements of up to 17% in consumption and emissions.

The version that Skoda submits to the Essilor Car of the Year/Crystal Volante Trophy competition assembles a 1.2 TSI gasoline block that promises frugal consumption – announced averages of 4.7 l/100 km, maintaining good performance – acceleration from 0 at 100 km/h and 10.9 seconds.

Depending on the version chosen, the Skoda Fabia offers different types of transmission – two 5-speed and 6-speed gearboxes or DSG dual-clutch automatic.

With regard to equipment, the new generation of the Fabia includes a set of new safety and driving aid technologies and an evolved infotainment system that benefits from Smartgate and MirrorLink connectivity solutions.

The new Skoda Fabia also competes for the City of the Year class where it faces the following competitors: Fiat 500, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, Mazda2, Nissan Pulsar, Opel Karl.
