Cold Start. Bubbletop: The Missing Accessory for the Mazda MX-5

Anonim

Created by an American Mazda MX-5 enthusiast, the Bubbletop (bubble roof) is a completely transparent hardtop, the “missing link” between the convertible car and the roofed car. Compatible with the first two generations of the MX-5 (NA and NB), this curious item is made of durable acrylic and weighs just 9.0 kg.

For those concerned about the “greenhouse effect”, Bubbletop is coated with a protective film against UV rays. According to author Jonathan Mark, it's the best of both worlds: unobstructed view as if the car had a convertible, but protected from the elements, as the roof remains in place.

However, there are some “buts”: it doesn't allow walking at more than 128 km/h (80 mph), it's not very resistant to scratches and some lack of rigidity can make the assembly difficult.

It will be available this spring.
