Engines are already warming up in Geneva, with the brands anticipating many of the news that will be presented there next March. Mazda is no different and promises a strong presence, starting with the new Mazda3.
We knew that the Mazda3, the first model to come with the revolutionary SKYACTIV-X engine, unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show in late November, would make its European public debut at the Geneva Motor Show, but there is still room for more surprises.
In addition to the Mazda3, the Japanese brand will debut in Geneva a new compact SUV . By referring to it as a compact, Mazda gives us clues about its positioning, which we assume should be placed between the two existing SUVs, the CX-3 — recently updated — and the CX-5.
Will it be a CX-4? Mazda already has a CX-4 in its catalog, sold on the Chinese market. It is a more dynamic and slender dash SUV, based on the CX-5.
However, it's not the same model, as Mazda's official statement reveals a little bit of what to expect from the new SUV. It will make use of the new generation SKYACTIV-Vehicle Architecture base, the same as the new Mazda3, as well as inheriting from it the latest versions of the SKYACTIV engines, as well as the SKYACTIV-X — gasoline engine with compression combustion (like a Diesel) with the aid of a spark plug, or SPCCI technology.
The teaser isn't very revealing, but like the Mazda3, the new SUV will also make use of the latest evolution of Kodo styling.

As if these two new weights were not enough, the Mazda3 and the new compact SUV, Mazda will take to Geneva the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition , which celebrates, as you can guess, the 30th anniversary of the presentation of the model, which took place in 1989 at the Chicago Salon. Since then, over four generations , more than a million MX-5s have been produced — more than 350,000 in Europe — making it the most popular roadster ever.
Finally, the Mazda CX-5, the brand's biggest SUV for sale in Europe — there is a CX-8 and a CX-9 out there —, receives improvements in terms of interior quality, reinforcement in technological equipment, and also the G -Vectoring Control Plus.
