RA is pleased to present to you a new track record holder, the Ford Daytona Ecoboost Prototype.

If like us they live intensely all the speed records that are occasionally broken, then you can't miss the details of this feat on Uncle Sam's land. Michael Shank's racing team (MSR), together with driver Colin Braun, have just broken 3 records at the international speed track in Daytona.

On October 9, the date of the presentation of the Ford Daytona Ecoboost Prototype, equipped with the Ecoboost family's 3.5-liter V6 biturbo block, during the “World Center of Speed” event, the 25-year-old driver Colin Braun in just one lap was able to take the Ford Daytona Ecoboost Prototype up to 357km/h, setting a new record on the Daytona track. The last record dates back to 1987, which makes this achievement particularly important.

According to driver Colin Braun, the day was quite challenging, as the team lost a lot of time adjusting all the details to have the car ready and be able to extract the full potential of the Ford Daytona Ecoboost Prototype.

During the remaining time on the track the MSR team still managed to beat 2 more records with the Ford Daytona Ecoboost Prototype, we are talking about the 10 fastest miles starting from the finish line, at an average of 337km/h. The third record was set at an average of 325km/h breaking the previous mark for the fastest 10km.

The preparation of the 3.5 Ecoboost block of the Ford Daytona Ecoboost Prototype, had the hands of the mechanical engineering geniuses of “Roush Yates Engines”, which in turn has a strategic partnership with the division of “Ford Racing”.

According to John Maddox, director of the competition division of Roush Yates, this project started 2 years ago and since then the work on perfecting this Ecoboost block has been extremely exhausting, with the aim of extracting as much power as possible, but at the same time increasing its efficiency.

Tires played a key role in achieving the 3 records, courtesy of Continental, who purposely developed the tires for this successful attempt.

Jamie Allison, director of Ford Racing, said he couldn't be more proud of the Ford Daytona Ecoboost, because for Jamie Allison to equip a prototype with a competition engine that basically uses production technology and with it set speed records, means the level Ecoboost technology development will have an auspicious future in the automotive industry. The Ford Daytona Ecoboost Prototype will enter as early as January 2014, on the 25th and 26th of the 24 Hours of the Daytona Rolex 24 and later on in the “TUDOR United SportsCar Championship” competition.

If there were still doubts about the outdated technology that the Americans could use in the competition, the Ford Daytona Ecoboost Prototype clearly detaches itself from this prejudice. With a level of evolution and technical improvement, which, who knows, may put Ford back in the mouths of the world, in what could take shape in a future participation in the LMP class, at the 24H of Le Mans.

Although far from the performance of this Ford Daytona Ecoboost, review our test of this distant relative also equipped with Ecoboost technology.
