Ford Edge debuts new 2.0 EcoBlue Diesel with 238 hp

If at the Detroit Motor Show we saw the renewed Ford Edge win an ST version — with 340 hp extracted from a 2.7 V6 EcoBoost — for Europe the strategy will be different. In other words, no ST or V6 EcoBoost version, but in its place we will have a new 2.0 diesel engine, called EcoBlue, which culminates in 238 hp of power.

Updating the Ford Edge was comprehensive — no aspect seems to have remained untouched — highlighting the efforts of the American brand to integrate the latest technologies in driving assistance, comfort and safety in its revised model.

Adaptive Cruise Control, Post-Collision Braking — helps to reduce the impact of a potential secondary collision by applying the brakes sparingly after the initial collision, reducing vehicle speed — Pedestrian detection, Pre-Collision Assistant, Assistant parking (perpendicular), etc. are just a few of the many pieces of equipment that are part of the revised Ford Edge.

The interior is also enriched by new equipment and systems: SYNC 3 with 8″ touchscreen — compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, no cost to the customer — configurable 3D digital dashboard — allows you to customize the layout of elements on the dashboard as it has seven colors to choose from —, wireless mobile phone charging, and as an option, a new 1000W B&O PLAY sound system.

When it comes to comfort, the new Ford Edge may come with heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel and rear seats, and panoramic glass roof.

2.0 EcoBlue Bi-turbo is the big news

The big news for the Ford Edge, however, is the offer of a new 2.0 EcoBlue Diesel engine. This new unit is already able to comply with the latest standards and test cycles and comes in three versions.

The first, with 150 hp, is available with front wheel drive and comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The second, with 190 hp, has a six-speed manual gearbox and all-wheel drive.

The protagonism is all of the most powerful version. It gets an additional turbo, with the two running sequentially — a small one for low revs and a bigger one for high revs. The result are 238 horsepower , always with all-wheel drive and eight-speed automatic transmission.

ST-Line

We may not have the Edge ST here, but for those who want a more dynamic look, you can opt for the ST-Line, which joins the well-known Vignale, Titanium and Trendy. The ST-Line package consists of:

  • Plastic shields in body color and grille with unique appearance in black
  • 20-inch wheels as standard, with option for 21-inch wheels
  • Double exhausts with chrome tips
  • Front seats partially covered with leather, adjustable in 10 directions
  • Steering wheel and manual gearbox handle in perforated leather and red stitching
  • Aluminum pedals, black roof covering and velvet mats

It doesn't stop with appearance, however, as the ST-Line also implies a sportier suspension setting, supported by Ford's adaptive steering, which constantly changes its ratio, depending on speed.
