Volvo on its way to record sales in 2017

Volvo's sales results for the first quarter of this year give strong indications that the brand will set a new record this year.

The first quarter of 2017 was fruitful for the Swedish brand. Volvo posted global sales growth of 7.1% over the same period last year. This growth translated into 129,148 units sold worldwide. In March alone, 57,158 units were traded, an increase of 9.3% compared to the same period in 2016.

With a comfortable edge, the Volvo XC60 was the brand's best-selling model in the first quarter of the year, with a total of 41,143 units. Not only is it the best-selling Volvo, the XC60 is the leader in its segment in Europe.

And if the brand is already showing healthy growth compared to last year, let us remember that the successor to the XC60, presented last month in Geneva, has not yet started its commercialization. So the new SUV is expected to play a crucial driving role in the second half of the year.

In 2016 Volvo celebrated its third consecutive year of record sales. The brand sold 534,332 cars, corresponding to an increase of 6.2% compared to 2015. The year 2017 and the potential record of sales may be the best gift for the brand to celebrate its 90th anniversary reached this year.

Volvo is a brand in full expansion after its purchase by Geely in 2010. The new generation of models on the new SPA platform (XC90, S90, V90 and new XC60) have been hugely successful and next year we should know a new one generation of compact models based on the new CMA platform, which includes, among others, a new SUV positioned below the XC60, the XC40.
