The seven-seat version will be renamed Santa Fe XL. The possibility of having a capacity for eight occupants (two rows of three-seater seats) is not ruled out, even if, at the outset, specifically for the North American market.

New Hyundai Santa Fe: bigger and more spacious

Announcing a slight growth in terms of dimensions compared to its predecessor, now exhibiting a wheelbase of 2.765 m, against the 2.70 m of the model on sale, as well as a length of 4.770 m, compared to the 4.699 m of the previous model, the New Santa Fe thus gains 38 mm more for legs and 18 mm in height in the second row, as well as greater luggage capacity — more precisely, an increase of 40 liters, to 625 liters.

Reinforced equipment

In terms of equipment, the highlights are solutions such as the head-up display, navigation system with an 8" screen, connectivity through Display Audio, smartphone induction charger and the highest level of active and passive safety systems, which Hyundai names Hyundai SmartSense — synonymous with Rear Seat Occupant Alert, Rear Passage Warning, Safe Parking Exit Assistant, Autonomous Emergency Braking Ahead with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Maintenance, Parking Alert Blind Spot, plus all passive safety systems.

More efficient diesel engines with new automatic gearbox

As for engines, the new Hyundai Santa Fe was presented in Geneva with three diesel engines and one gasoline engine, all third generation and, as such, complying with the Euro 6c anti-pollution rules.

Diesel, the well-known 2.0 with two power levels, 150 and 182 hp, available with front or all-wheel drive, can have both a six-speed manual gearbox and a new eight-speed automatic gearbox. The same solutions, by the way, for the more powerful Diesel, 2.2 liter turbo, announcing 197 hp and 434 Nm of torque.

Now for gasoline, a 2.4 liter Theta II block with 185 hp and 241 Nm, complemented only with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Alongside these two engines, Hyundai will already be working on a hybrid version, to be launched later.

Marketing starts in the second half of 2018

The fourth generation of Hyundai Santa Fe is expected to start production in the second quarter of 2018, followed by the start of sales, scheduled for the second half of this year. Prices are yet to be announced.
