The second generation of Toyota's representative for the C-segment, the Toyota Auris, has been on the market for about six years, which is why this third generation, unveiled here at the Geneva Motor Show, was essential for the model's update and continuity in the sales.

Unveiled here at the Geneva Motor Show, the new generation presents significant changes in its external appearance, with the adoption of full LED optics and rear-view mirrors that gain a new position in the doors, instead of being placed next to the A-pillar.

New hybrid engine makes absolute debut

The new generation of the Toyota Auris debuts the brand's new hybrid engine, a more efficient and more powerful 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine. The new unit is capable of a combined power of 169 hp, and 205 Nm of torque . Also debut of the new version of the continuous variation box (CVT).

In addition to this hybrid solution, available on the Auris will also be a 1.2 petrol turbo, the only combustion block without any electrical support, as well as a 1.8 liter 122 hp petrol hybrid.

Also new is the six-speed gearbox on the Auris, one of the smallest in the world, more efficient than the previous one, and designed for the European market.

More space and infotainment system with new screen

Inside, there were several changes, highlighting the new infotainment system screen, placed in a superior position. The adoption of the new TNGA platform , debuted on the Toyota Prius, gives it more room for occupants. The brand plans to use this platform in 80% of its vehicles by 2023, a key part to significantly reduce CO2 emissions by around 18%.

The growing electrification of the Toyota range is also part of this objective — this already leads in hybrid models —, as stated by Vitor Marques, communication director at Toyota Portugal:

Toyota is committed to selling 5.5 million electrified vehicles a year by 2030, of which one million will be fuel cells.
