Volvo. Models launched from 2019 will have an electric motor

Anonim

That Volvo will launch its first tram in 2019 is already known. But the Swedish brand's plans for the near future are far more radical than we would have expected.

Just recently, Volvo's CEO, Håkan Samuelsson, suggested that the brand's current generation of diesel engines would be the last, news that after all was just the “tip of the iceberg”. In a statement, Volvo has now announced that all models released from 2019 onwards will have an electric drive.

This unprecedented decision marks the beginning of Volvo's electrification strategy, but it does not mean the immediate end of the diesel and petrol engines in the brand – there will continue to be hybrid proposals in the Volvo range.

But there is more: between 2019 and 2021 Volvo will launch five 100% electric models , three of which will carry the Volvo emblem and the remaining two will be launched under the Polestar brand – know more about the future of this performance division here. All of them will be complemented by traditional hybrid options, with diesel and gasoline engines, and mild-hybrid, with a 48-volt system.

This is a decision made with our customers in mind. The demand for electric cars is increasing, which makes us want to respond to current and future needs.

Håkan Samuelsson, CEO of Volvo

The main objective remains: sell 1 million hybrid or 100% electric cars worldwide by 2025 . We'll be here to see.
