Genesis G80 and GV80 have already been put to the test by EuroNCAP and the Citroën C4 too

With arrival on the European market (although limited, for now, to three countries) scheduled for the summer, the Genesis G80 and GV80 , the "newbies in Europe" have already undergone the demanding tests carried out by EuroNCAP having been "accompanied" by the well-known Citron C4.

Starting with the two South Korean models, both passed with distinction in the EuroNCAP race, earning the coveted five stars. The good performances in the four categories under analysis contributed to this - protection of adults, children, pedestrians and driving assistance.

In the field of side impact protection, the GV80 was marginally superior to the G80 while the latter outperformed the SUV in pedestrian protection (courtesy of the active hood). In terms of child protection and assistance systems, both obtained very positive evaluations.

The “weight” of standard equipment

As you know, the EuroNCAP assessment only takes into account the standard safety equipment present in all versions, not counting the optional safety equipment packages for the assessment, to ensure a uniform verdict on a model — there are exceptions and how much they test an optional equipment package, has a separate evaluation, as if it were another model.

It was this criterion that made the new Citroën C4 (and the ë-C4) present a result of “only” four stars.

For if the French model does not disappoint in the fields of protection for adults and children, the absence of some driving assistance systems in the list of standard safety equipment (detection of cyclists by the emergency braking system is an option) has ended. for harming him in the final evaluation.

And yes, it is true that, despite influencing the final result in this assessment, when these devices relate to active safety, they have little or no effect on passive safety, that is, the ability of the car to protect the occupants of a collision.

However, the fact remains that a focus on active safety can mitigate the effects of a collision or even avoid it altogether. The “good news” is that, despite not being offered as standard, these devices can equip the Citroën C4.
