Jaguar Land Rover lays off 1000 workers due to diesel crash

The news is advanced by British Autocar, citing statements by Jaguar Land Rover, which recognizes that the "constant slowdown" in sales of Diesel vehicles, forced "to make adjustments to production and the number of workers."

However, Jaguar Land Rover also guarantees, in a statement, that "we continue to need a high number of specialist engineers, graduates and apprentices, as we continue to invest, more than proportionally, in new products and technologies".

At the same time, “we also remain committed to our UK factories, in which we have invested over £4bn (approximately €4.6bn) since 2010 in order to equip them with the latest production technology, with a view to manufacturing the new models”, adds the manufacturer.

One thousand leave Solihull, 350 are replaced

Although Jaguar Land Rover has not confirmed how many will be laid off, Autocar guarantees that there will be around 1000 workers. At the same time 350, currently working in Castle Bromwich, will be relocated to Solihull.

This decision has to do with the fact that the Castle Bromwich factory, where Jaguar models are produced, have been particularly affected, especially the XE and XF models, with the drop in sales of Diesel vehicles. Although the problem is more comprehensive, where about 90% of vehicles produced at JLR are diesel.
