Cold Start. Ayrton Senna at the wheel of a… Lada?

Anonim

The image leaves us somewhat perplexed... Ayrton Senna driving, apparently fast, a Lada (or VAZ, or AvtoVAZ) 2101. Test drive? Did it help develop some aspect of the car (like you did with the Honda NSX)?

The mystery is much simpler to solve. The photograph was taken in 1986, during the weekend of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the first to be taken at the Hungaroring circuit in Budapest.

The Brazilian driver had a habit of doing one or several laps at the circuits where he competed, whether riding or behind the wheel of a regular car. This being the first Grand Prix to be held beyond the Iron Curtain, nothing seemed more suitable than using one of the most common cars at that time, the Lada 2101, based on the Fiat 124.

Senna has taken at least one tour of the circuit, with the moment being recorded for prosperity by Zsolt Mitrovics, a member of the circuit's technical rescue team.
