It won't be Nivus. Volkswagen's new crossover is called Taigo

Anonim

After confirming that the Nivus — launched in South America and Mexico — was also coming to Europe, Volkswagen has just revealed the name of its European “twin brother”: Volkswagen Taigo.

Volkswagen says the Taigo is a crossover that combines an elevated driving position with a sportier, coupe-style silhouette. It will be presented in the summer and will go on sale there later in 2021.

But in the meantime, the Wolfsburg brand has already unveiled some details about the model and anticipated its lines in the form of three sketches.

Volkswagen Taigo

Unlike what happens with the T-Roc, which is produced in Portugal, at the Autoeuropa factory, the new Taigo will be manufactured next door, in Spain, at Volkswagen's production unit in Pamplona, in the province of Navarra. It is, moreover, where the Polo and T-Cross are produced, models technically close to the Taigo.

In the first sketches of Taigo, it is possible to confirm that this will be a proposal with many visual similarities with Nivus. This is visible in the design of the front grille, divided by a chrome line, as is the case with the T-Cross, a model with which it must share the luminous signature at the rear.

However, the bumper protections seem more robust on the Taigo than on the Nivus, not to mention the roof line, which takes on more sporty contours on the Taigo, or if this wasn't a kind of T-Cross with “air” of coupe.

Gas engines only

Volkswagen has not yet specified the range of engines that will equip the Taigo, but it already makes known that only gasoline engines will be available.

It is therefore safe to say that this small SUV should feature the new 1.0 l TSI Evo engines with 95 hp or 110 hp, as well as a 1.5 liter block with 130 hp or 150 hp.

“R” version on the way?

In the sketches now released by Volkswagen, it is possible to identify the "R" logo on the front grille, which leads us to believe that the Taigo may receive a sportier version, as already happens with the T-Roc, with the Tiguan and with the Touareg — at the very least it should have an R Line version.

But we will have to wait for his presentation, in the summer, to find out if all this will be confirmed.
