Caught up! Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series shows itself ahead of time

Videos and spy photos of the dramatic and longed for Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series have not been lacking — lately it has been “caught up” in intense tests at the Nürburgring — nor does the camouflage hide its extreme character.

But now, on Instagram, the race356 account has appeared, it seems, the first naked images of the future beast from Affalterbach, which is expected to be the last development on the GT, launched in 2014.

And what camouflage hardly hid, now we can appreciate it in all its splendor:

Living up to the Black Series name, this will be the most radical of all the Mercedes-AMG GT. The focus on the circuits justifies the aerodynamic apparatus, as can be seen in the more pronounced front carbon fiber splitter and canards at the ends, extended side skirts, in the very high rear wing — where there is a second wing, lower, joining the supports — and imposing diffuser.

Also impossible to miss is the unique carbon fiber hood which boasts several additional air vents, which will certainly help to keep the rumbling twin-turbo V8 at the perfect temperature.

More engine, less voice?

Speaking of its V8, and according to rumors, the Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series will come up with its most powerful version known so far. In the GT R and GT R Pro, the 4.0 V8 biturbo already produced “juicy” 585 hp, but in the GT R Black Series this value should rise, apparently, for a much more expressive 720 hp , equating machines like the Ferrari F8 Tribute or the McLaren 720S.

It is also rumored that it will be able to make a trip to “green hell” in less than seven minutes, a figure within the reach of (very) few production cars. Is it really so?

What the new GT R Black Series doesn't seem to have is… voice. In the video below we can see him testing at the Nürburgring and even the authors of the video refer to the little noise produced, sounding like a mere four cylinders — the muffled voice of the mighty V8 seems to fulfill the requirements. noise standards imposed by the European Union that came into effect on 1 July for new models.

The final unveiling of the Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series was scheduled to take place later this month (July 24) at the Chengdu Motor Show, China, but for now we don't know how much the pandemic has altered those plans.
