Tavascan Anticipates CUPRA's Electric Future

Anonim

After having appeared in several teasers (if you remember it was even thought that it would be the next CUPRA Leon), the latest prototype of the CUPRA was finally revealed.

Named Tavascan, the new CUPRA concept has a guaranteed presence at the Frankfurt Motor Show and, like its “brother”, the Formentor, it presents a totally innovative look, confirming that CUPRA is increasingly distancing itself from SEAT in terms stylistic.

Developed based on the MEB platform, the Tavascan presents itself as a 100% electric SUV-Coupé, inserting itself in a market niche (the electric SUV-Coupé) which, according to CUPRA, should grow around 15% per year .

New prototype, new style

While looking at Formentor it is still possible to detect some aesthetic elements that do not deny the SEAT origins (namely the grille), the same does not happen with Tavascan.

The fact that it is 100% electric meant that CUPRA did not offer a conventional grill to the Tavascan, with the latter receiving only a small frieze that joins the headlights and where the word “CUPRA” appears.

At the rear, the highlight goes to the light bar that crosses the entire rear gate and where the brand logo appears. Also on the outside, the SUV-Coupé silhouette and the huge 22” wheels stand out.

As for the interior, after having already seen part of it in a teaser, the strong technological commitment is confirmed, with the main highlights being the 12.3” digital instrument panel and the 13” central screen that can be moved to the front of the passenger.

Power doesn't lack

As you would expect, as it is an electric model from a brand belonging to the Volkswagen Group, the CUPRA Tavascan was developed based on the MEB platform, the same as the ID.3.

Equipped with two electric motors (one on the front and one on the rear), the Tavascan has 306 hp (225 kW) of power, a value that, according to CUPRA, allows the prototype to meet 0 to 100 km/h in 6 .5s.

Equipped with two electric motors, the Tavascan is capable of traveling 450 km on a single charge.

Powering the two engines is a battery with 77 kWh of capacity that allows a range of 450 km, this already in accordance with the WLTP cycle.

For now, CUPRA does not indicate dates for a possible launch of Tavascan (nor does it indicate if it will), however it is not difficult to predict that it is a matter of time before it becomes a production model.
