It's official. A SEAT electric scooter is coming

Anonim

SEAT is committed to leading the Volkswagen Group's micromobility strategy (although there is much talk about a possible more premium positioning). For this reason, the Spanish brand is preparing to reinforce its bet on two wheels.

After making its debut in the world of electric scooters (or KickScooters) with the small eXS, the Spanish brand will now unveil the prototype of its first electric scooter at the Smart City Expo World Congress, in Barcelona.

Equivalent to a motorcycle with 125 cm3 of displacement (yes, it can be driven with a category B driving licence), the SEAT electric scooter is expected to arrive on the market in 2020 and will not only be available for private customers but also for shared services.

A broader view

As part of an urban mobility strategy that also includes the SEAT eXS and the future Minimó, the SEAT electric scooter (whose name has not been revealed) will be developed in collaboration with the electric scooter manufacturer Silence, based in Barcelona.

The creation of an electric scooter by SEAT is part of a conversion process in which the brand intends to become a provider of mobility services, going beyond the manufacture of vehicles. The purpose of this conversion is to respond to what is, according to SEAT, one of the great trends in mobility: the collaborative, shared and sustainable economy.

The continuous growth of large cities makes efficient mobility one of the main challenges.

Luca de Meo, President of SEAT

As if to prove SEAT's intention to make this conversion, the Spanish brand, which is now preparing to unveil its first electric scooter, already has carsharing services through Respiro, in addition to making the SEAT eXS available for shared services through of the UFO start-up.
