World's Greatest Drag Race 8. The most epic of drag races is back

Anonim

It's already one of the most anticipated events in the business. Among the countless drag races published in Razão Automóvel, this is certainly the biggest and most epic of all. “Hats off” to Motor Trend, for year after year to gather the highest performance machines, and place them side by side in the most classic of starting tests, the quarter-mile, or quarter-mile (402 m ).

This year's edition includes 12 entrants, and for the first time in the history of the World's Greatest Drag Race there is an SUV among the candidates… and it's Italian. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, equipped with the twin-turbo V6 by Ferrari, demonstrated enough arguments to be placed alongside muscle cars, sports and supersports.

But first, everyone at World's Greatest Drag Race 8:

  • Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio — 2.9, V6, twin turbo, 510 hp, AWD
  • Aston Martin Vantage — 4.0, V8, twin turbo, 510 hp, RWD
  • Audi TT RS — 2.5, 5c. in-line, turbo, 400 hp, AWD
  • BMW M5 — 4.4, V8, twin turbo, 600 hp, AWD
  • Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 — 6.2, V8, Supercharged, 765 hp, RWD
  • Dodge Challenger RT Scat Pack 1320 — 6.4, V8, 492 hp, RWD
  • Ford Mustang GT — 5.0, V8, 466 hp (USA), RWD
  • Honda Civic Type R — 2.0, 4 cyl. in-line, turbo, 320 hp, FWD
  • Kia Stinger GT — 3.3, V6, twin turbo, 370 hp, AWD
  • Lamborghini Huracán Performante — 5.2, V10, 630 hp, AWD
  • McLaren 720S — 4.0, V8, twin turbo, 720 hp, RWD
  • Porsche 911 GT2 RS — 3.8, 6cyl. opposites, 700 hp, RWD

Place your bets! The McLaren 720S has been the king of drag races lately, but we can't overlook the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, and the 765 hp Corvette ZR1. Will there be surprises? — oddly enough, all of them with only two-wheel drive. The most powerful of the four-wheel drive is the BMW M5, but it weighs over 1900 kg. And Stelvio… how will the first SUV to participate in the World's Greatest Drag Race behave?

There's only one way to find out… Watch the video below.

As a note, Motor Trend performed two tests, the classic 400 m, which we published; and a second, of 800 m (half a mile), with the fastest of the first race — and some surprises, such as the presence of the Challenger Hellcat Redeye, the most vigorous of the Hellcats. But it's only available via paid subscription.
