"We caught" the new BMW M8 in tests at the Nürburgring

The BMW 8 Series was unveiled nearly a year ago and since then we've seen more variants unveiled. At the end of last year we got to know the 8 Series Cabrio, and the prototype that anticipates the Gran Coupé four-door version has already been revealed. However, maybe it's the new BMW M8 the one that generates the most expectations.

BMW got ready to confirm that there would be an M8, disclosing, just last year, a series of “spy” photos of the prototype in development at the Estoril Autodrome.

Now, half a year later, the future BMW M8 has been “caught” by Bruno Dias, at the Nürburgring circuit, the “green hell”, in yet another phase of its development.

BMW M8, what to expect

Definitive numbers on power or performance have not yet been advanced, but what we can confirm is that the new M8 will use the same “heart” as the M5, that is, a twin turbo V8 with 4.4 l capacity . In the M5 Competition, the power of the V8 rose from 600 hp to 625 hp, so it is expected that the M8 will at least equal this value.

Interestingly, M has already released the consumption and CO2 emissions of its new flagship: 10.7 to 10.8 l/100km and 243 to 246 g/km — priorities…

The proximity to the M5 continues in the remaining choices for the M8 hardware. Eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission and M xDrive system to move the large hundreds of horses onto the asphalt. Like the M5, the BMW M8 will also have a 2WD (two-wheel drive) mode — ideal for shredding tires — sending all horsepower to the rear axle.

What we also already know is that the new M8 will feature M Servotronic electromechanical steering and, optionally, with carbon-ceramic brakes, which can be observed behind 19″ standard wheels or optional 20″ wheels.

Finally, although we are only looking at the coupé, the BMW M8 Cabrio and M8 Gran Coupé will be available later. Everything points to the public presentation of the model taking place at the next Frankfurt Motor Show, in September.
