James May has put up for sale his Ferrari 308 GTB

James May, aka Captain Slow, hardly needs any introduction. There are several cars he owns, but his garage has just gained more space, as he decided to sell his Ferrari 308 GTB of 1977.

There are several cars he owns and they couldn't be more disparate, from a (another) Ferrari 458 Speciale to a Tesla Model S, passing through an Alpine A110 or a BMW i3.

But it's time to say goodbye to his Ferrari 308 GTB and to explain the reasons for that decision, James May made us this short video (in English, of course).

“Possibly one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever made”

Among the justifications advanced by May, despite considering it one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever, it wasn't in terms of driving — perhaps one of the reasons for not driving it much anymore. According to him, the 308 GTB is a car… old.

His time has passed and May says he's not a big fan of old cars.

Not that James May doesn't like the car. According to him, one of the reasons he bought it in the first place was the passion that this model sparked during its teenage years, when the 308 GTB was launched and it was new. A kind of “itch you had to itch” as an adult…

The Ferrari 308 GTB by James May

As we have already mentioned, James May's Ferrari 308 GTB is from 1977 and has around 96 000 km.

It's a rather rare unit, one of 211 Ferrari 308 GTBs produced with a right-hand drive and one of the first with a steel body (in Rosso Corsa) — when it launched in 1975, the 308's body was in fiberglass.

The 3.0 l V8 with 255 hp is still carbureted (later versions with mechanical injection, with less power) and this unit comes with the “desirable dry sump”, as May says. The V8 is coupled to a box. five-speed manual, with the first one in “dog-leg” (the first one is backwards), as happened in many competition cars.

Interested? The Ferrari 308 GTB is now for sale at Kent High Performance Cars (Ferrari specialists) at a lower price than James May originally gave for it — the value of classics is down this year. The price is approximately 77 thousand euros.
