Central driving position for the new SCG 004S

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus, an American manufacturer, has unveiled the new SCG 004S. More affordable than the SCG 003S, it's a new supercar with a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel drive and a powerful twin turbo V8. But the highlight is definitely the three occupant seats, with the driver's seat in the center, just like the McLaren F1.

It won't cost millions

The big difference for the SCG 003S, its first model, is the price — remember that the SCG 003S is above two million euros. The SCG 004S will be much more affordable, with the base price to stay at a more “modest” 340 thousand euros and some change (400 thousand dollars). It's still a lot, it's true, but much closer to machines like the McLaren 720S or the Ford GT.

The latter seems to have served as inspiration for the design of the SCG 004S, as it uses a similar solution in the way the front and rear volumes intersect. And those taillights? They look like they've been modeled on the Maserati 3200 GT. Despite everything, it still has a strong identity.

Separated at birth?

Lots of carbon, a V8 and… a manual gearbox

Like the SCG 003S, the SCG 004S also features a carbon fiber monocoque, chassis and bodywork, advertising a weight of just 1180 kg — tens of kilos lower than a Renault Clio RS. An impressive value considering the heart of this machine, situated behind the occupants.

The engine is a V8 with 5.0 liters of capacity and two turbos. Result: 659 hp and 720 Nm! Unfortunately, the Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus didn't come forward with performance figures, but so many horses and newton metres, and so little mass to move, should guarantee respectable numbers.

The SCG 004S also stands out for coupling the powerful V8 to a six-speed manual gearbox . There are already two USP (Unique Selling Points or unique product characteristics) of the super sports car. The central driving position and a manual gearbox associated with this level of performance are features impossible to find in competitors. However, for circuit fans looking to save every tenth of a second, there is the option for a switch gear box.

First units in 18 months

According to Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus, the first units will be delivered within 18 months. These will be called “The Founder's Edition” and will be limited to 25 units. But the plans are more ambitious, as the goal, after these 25 units, is to produce around 250 cars a year , a number far superior to the few tens of SCG 003.

We will also see the SCG 004S running at the Nürburgring 24 hours (perhaps in 2019?), and competition versions are planned for the GT3 and GTE/GTLM categories. For any interested parties, we have already announced a base price of 340 thousand euros , but it involves a deposit of 34 thousand euros (40 thousand dollars).
