Hyundai drew on experience gained in competition to develop the RN30 Concept.

The new Hyundai RN30 Concept has finally arrived in Paris, the prototype that anticipates the Korean brand's first sports car, the Hyundai i30 N. At the request of many families, this prototype takes the first step in the line of sportier models from Hyundai, aimed at the European market.

Judging not only by the file but also by the appearance of the car, Hyundai has put all its know-how into this concept with sporty lines. The cabin is equipped with everything that a concept of this nature is entitled to: a futuristic look and sporty seats, steering wheel and pedals. Sporting genetics extends to the bodywork, whose priority was aerodynamics and stability – the Korean hot-hatch stands out for its lower center of gravity and a lighter body, wider and closer to the ground, with the obligatory appendages aerodynamics. Instead of the traditional carbon fiber, Hyundai opted for a lighter and more resistant plastic material, according to the brand.

Under the hood, we find a 2.0 Turbo engine developed from scratch by Hyundai, coupled to a dual clutch (DCT) gearbox. In total, it develops 380 hp of power and 451 Nm of maximum torque, the same as the engine of the new i20 WRC. To help with cornering at high speed, the Hyundai RN30 Concept also has an electronic self-locking differential (eLSD).

“The RN30 embodies the concept of a vigorous and high-performance car (…). Just short of evolving into our first N model, the RN30 is inspired by our passion for high performance cars accessible to everyone. We use our technological knowledge – based on success in motor sport – to develop a model that mixes driving pleasure with performance, something we want to implement in future models”.

Albert Biermann, responsible for the N Performance department at Hyundai

Taking all this into account, the new Hyundai I30 N could prove to be a serious opponent of proposals from the “old continent”, such as the Peugeot 308 GTI, Volkswagen Golf and Seat Leon Cupra. But for now, the Hyundai RN30 Concept will be on display at the Paris Motor Show until October 16th.
